about us
The big room cic officially came into being on 21 May 2019 as a not-for-profit organisation limited by guarantee. Its directors are Hayley Stevens and Owen Stevens.
We are experimenting with building a room big enough for the 'all of us' especially that which our society excludes and marginalises.
We believe that which is marginalised and left unseen, unheard and unknown leads to the internal wars we wage within ourselves and finds its expression in the external wars we wage with others. We are committed to working with what separates and divides us from ourselves, others and nature. why the big room cic?
We had intended to create a space called The Art of Living. But the domain name was no longer available. In the meantime ‘the big room’ made its appearance, on the door entry system. The name made us smile not least because it was quite literally a big room but because it was a term used by Hillary and Bradford Keeney to denote a space that has been made big enough to host sacred emotion.
The big room is also the name given to the main workshop space at the Process Work Institute Headquarters in Portland Oregon. The work of Arny and Amy Mindell and in particular World Work continues to transform communities throughout the world. Process Work and Sacred Ecstatics both in their different ways embrace a big room ethos. One which includes the all of us without bias or exception. It is our hope that the big room will provide a space that opens us up to the other in us. And in doing so shines a light through and out into the community. |
“Imagine psychotherapy being contextualised in an academy of performing arts as a discipline comfortably related to theatre, music, dance and the rhetorical arts.” |
